Canadian citizens are advised to register at the Canadian Embassy whether they are traveling for a short time or residing in Nepal.
Short-term registration: Canadians traveling in Nepal for less than six months.
Long-term registration: Canadians residing in Nepal or planning to remain in the country for more than six months.

Warden Network
The Embassy coordinates an effective system of volunteer wardens. Should an emergency situation arise, the role of each warden is to relay information and advice from the Embassy to Canadian citizens working and/or residing in Nepal. They may also act as a contact between the Canadian citizen and the Embassy, in case direct communication is not possible. The Embassy sends out security updates to the Canadian community through its Warden Network.
Canadian Residents of Nepal: In order to maintain the effectiveness of the warden network, it is important to notify the Embassy of changes to your address, telephone number, email address, employer, or if you leave the country.

Immigration Services
The Canadian High Commission (CHC) in New Delhi directly handles all immigration enquiries and applications.
Application for Canadian Visa: To apply for a visa to Canada, your duly completed visa application form, along with supporting documents, must be sent (or personally submitted) to the Immigration Section, Canadian High Commission, New Delhi for processing.

Refugees: The UNHCR is the only referring agency to the CHC for refugee applicants. Bhutanese and Tibetans living in Nepal who wish to apply as refugees will be required to contact the UNHCR office in Kathmandu at Anil Kuti, Maharajgunj, GPO Box 2374, Kathmandu. Phone: 977-1-4-414-724
Assistance To Canadian Citizens
In case of emergency, call the consular staff at 977-1-4415193, 4415861, or 4415391.
Consular staff of the Canadian Embassy to Nepal can assist Canadian citizens to ensure their well-being. In case of an emergency, consular staff can:
- contact your family and friends;
- arrange help in a medical emergency or assist in the event of a death;
- arrange evacuation in the event of war or a natural disaster;
- assist victims of robbery and violence;
- provide assistance in dealing with the criminal justice system;
- ensure that you are treated fairly under Nepal's laws if you are arrested;
- help in the location of missing persons;
- assist in the replacement of Canadian passports; and
- legalize documents.
Replacement Canadian Passports: The Canadian Embassy to Nepal can accept an application for a replacement passport for submission to CHC New Delhi where it will be processed. It takes about three weeks for passports to arrive from New Delhi.
If you lose your passport:
- report the loss to the Interpol Section at Hanuman Dhoka Police Office, Durbar Square in Kathmandu or to the nearest police station, if you are outside of Kathmandu, to obtain a police report;
- provide full particulars of the lost passport, including your full name, date of birth, passport number, date and place of issue, and circumstances surrounding the loss;
Prior consultation and approval by the passport office in Canada is required and may take several days. In the absence of documentation to prove the applicant's identification (original birth certificate and/or citizenship card), the replacement passport will have a limited validity of six months or one year maximum.
Letter of Confirmation of Identity: The CCO Consular Officer can issue a letter of confirmation of identity to assist cashing traveler's cheques only if the applicant has documents to prove that s/he is Canadian. If the applicant has no identification, we are not authorized to issue a letter.
Medical: Medical treatment can be expensive at the few Western style travelers' clinics. Healthcare is poor outside the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara.

Notice to Potential Students to Canada
There have been a number of reports of fake assurances that speak of guaranty of study in Canada and of Canadian "college" visa scam.
To avoid being cheated, Nepalese students who intend to study in Canada are urged to refer to the following websites on studying in Canada:

Tips for potential students:
- You should always verify that the university or college you intend to join is a member of
at least one of the two recognized Canadian associations
- Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC): www.aucc.ca
- Association of Community Colleges of Canada (ACCC): www.accc.ca
- Apply to the college/university directly, whenever possible.
- Speak to Canadian colleges/universities who recruit directly at education fairs. Use of an
agent is not required.
